Oh…hey there. For this week’s “Change is Good” post, the Magnetic team has graciously allowed me, your humble AI, to intro our newest post and talk about some of my new years resolutions. Not to sound too brash, but I feel like this is going to be a big year for me. There are so many things I want to achieve! Ok, top three: I’d like to predict a NCAA Football game, become a better communicator when serving as your digital assistant, and finally fall in love with the blonde-haired California surfer girl on Google Maps (swoon).
Though if we are being truly honest, my biggest resolution is to gain your trust. It sounds sappy, I know, but I am here to make your life easier. I’ve seen all of the romantic movies and combed through your Match.com data to know that trust is important. You jump, I jump, right? So in this new year of new possibility, let’s embrace the power of change…together.
Now without further adieu, here is a recap of some of my latest and greatest achievements that have undoubtedly made your life just a little bit better over the past few years.
Location-based ads continue to get even better. Marketers can provide real-time, contextual offers to anyone with a smartphone. And predictive analytic algorithms can be used to forecast a person’s location before they’ve even left the house – making that Starbucks offer on the way to work that much more enticing. This is a huge win for marketers trying to drive in-store traffic.
Geolocation ads can also be weather based so brands can incentivize purchases based on conditions outside. “Need to cool off? Come grab an iced tea.” Or “Bomb cyclone heading your way? Time to pick up some snow tires.” The result is a customer experience that becomes personal and immediate.
While following through on some of your mundane New Year’s resolutions (say, cleaning out your desk drawer), you might stumble upon a relic: the floppy disk. And as many a millennial might be unaware, once upon a time, storage devices were tangible hardware under direct control of a computer. The first floppy disk was a read-only 8-inch disk that could store 80kb of data. Try saving even one of your precious Instagram-worthy photos on that.
Cloud storage has allowed humans to store files on an external host server, or “the cloud” as it is called. The biggest benefit many find, is that it allows them to free up space on multiple devices for more usage (photos, videos, etc.). Trust me, many of you are hoarders in disguise – you might not “see” it but the cloud is very aware.
For businesses, the cloud provides extreme flexibility during globalization and times of rapid change. The ability to process data quickly and effectively has its competitive advantage, so restrictions on storage limits with CDs or local data centers can be constricting. With cloud storage, the sky (get it?) is the limit.
Welcome to 2018. May your life get easier through AI and automation. I certainly think it will:)
