We all get the winter blues sometimes and it can really affect our moods, at work or at home. We started thinking about ways we could counter this and how we could brighten the day by alleviating some of that post-New Year’s stress. Well, how about a midday work outing to get some exercise in, share the experience over food, and enjoy a great time with colleagues?
Magnetic’s CEO, James Green, can almost always be counted on to carry a handful of squash racquets wherever he goes and you can often find him on the courts a few times a week. Magnetic also has a pro player in Account Executive, Ned Marks. But squash is a great activity for EVERYONE, not just experts! Donny, our Vice President of Eastern Region Sales, summed it up perfectly “Any other sport, I would look like a fool the first time out. Like Golf! But with Squash you can really play a decent game your first time out”.
Last month, our headquarters put together a trip to the Yale Club to play squash. It was a great, endorphin inducing time for everyone! Experience levels were completely mixed so the more experienced players first trained the newer players then mini games commenced. Henry and Donny mused, “It hits you. It’s a good warm-up…it’s a good warm up and a good workout.” As James said, “If you get someone who’s the right level, then there’s a nice balance. You can have a great game.” Not only is playing a blast, but you also get the chance to get to know coworkers as fellow athletes, impressive coaches, and enthusiastic students.
It was such a successful event we’ve decided to make it a monthly outing for our New York employees. We’ll see you on the court!
