It’s hard to believe that women make up half of the U.S. workforce, but hold just 25% of the jobs in technical or computing fields! Today jobs in technology related fields are amongst the fastest-growing and highest-paying (not to mention the coolest!) so it’s more important than ever to encourage and inspire girls and women of all ages to pursue careers in technology. Careers in technology drive positive change around the world and help build the future.
Magnetic is home to some incredibly talented engineers (both male and female) and as a technology company, we value the impact that software engineering has on our everyday work. Software enables human beings to do things we have never done before. It powers the digital world, and is the universal language bringing humans and technology together. Here at Magnetic, we use the power of this very technology to connect consumers to the things they love the most.
You may not know it, but software engineering and the ability to code represents an amazing opportunity for female empowerment. Women have the opportunity to excel in their careers by learning new skills in technology, and here at Magnetic, we are all about female empowerment! Last week the Magnetic Ann Arbor office hosted “Intro to Programming Concepts”, an educational event open to any and all Ann Arbor women interested in learning how to code.Females who code are females who rock! And the more women that code, the closer we get to extinguishing the gender gap in technology and engineering sectors.
This special event was planned in collaboration with Girl Develop It, a nonprofit organization that exists to provide affordable and judgment-free opportunities for women interested in learning web and software development skills (girldevelopit.com). Participants had the opportunity to strengthen their coding skills through on site training and educational presentations. Magnetic hosted this informational event in order to support women who want to get into or transition towards technical careers, but also to actively recruit women for engineering roles at Magnetic.
As a company, we strongly support all women and minorities, including our engineering organization. We aim to empower women through the encouragement they need to advance their careers with training and support.
Take a look at a few pictures from our event, and if you are interested in learning how to code, check out the links below to local organizations that support coding for women.
Become a catalyst for change, impact lives and improve communities across the world, learn to code! Magnetic plans to host more Girl Develop It events in the future.
