With the pro-net neutrality protest scheduled for July 12th, James Green shares a balanced view on the subject in this month’s Marketing Land column. The disagreement is between a small group of internet service providers (ISPs) and a much larger group of companies and individuals who use the pipes that these ISPs have built.
The ISPs complaint is that they spent billions of dollars to build a proprietary network, and now the government is stopping them from being able to earn as much money as they would like from it. The tech companies are arguing that they don’t want to pay a toll to the ISPs — because if you let the ISPs have control, there will be fewer start-ups, less innovation, higher bills and a reduction of connection speed for many services.
